9 Months Old
Mia is a very busy 9 month old. She loves to play peek-a-boo and stick her hands in the dog's water bowl. Tears fall quickly if I try to set her down after carrying her or prevent her from anything she can't have. She loves snooping in the dishwasher and pantry. Over the past couple of days, she has really started to get the hang of pulling up on things effortlessly. Once she is standing, she looks around for me until I applaud her for her awesome actions. And now that she is a stander, she can barely stay seated in the tub. Why is it that you love doing one thing until you learn something new? It's like you forget what was once cool. For example, Mia was on an "Uh OH" kick for a good week or two and now she never says it. And have I mentioned that the only time she gets remotely close to saying Mama is when she is loudly crying?! "Dada" and other babble is said throughout the day in a cute tone-but not the one word I am still waiting to hear.
Kelsey has been in Mexico since Friday, so we had a relaxing girls weekend around the house. I think I was in bed before 9 on Friday night. The thought that I was missing out on something fun never entered my mind. I was so excited to go to sleep after my first week back at work. Mia got up around 7 and we casually followed her slow morning schedule of naps and feedings. However, she had something going on. Lots of sneezing and runny nose business. I called my sister and sister-in-law and they directed me to everything I needed to do and buy. I came to the conclusion that her illness was partially due to teething, starting daycare, and weather change. As if I needed to consult a doctor! Needless to say that Mia is not a fan of saline being sprayed up her nose and then bulb syringed out. I had to pin her down like wrestle mania while she hit Mariah Carey notes at the top of her lungs and her entire body turned red. So anyhow, after we calmed down a bit we strolled the neighborhood with Seis and then managed to go to Wal-Mart. I even got an oil change which made me feel more productive.
Today, we went to church and then played around the house some more. The day went by fast and I really enjoyed just spending time with her. She does her version of catching a small ball and rolling it back and forth. That seemed to last longer than any other game we played. The dogs were on the patio laying next to the back door window and Mia crawled over to the window and first started to lick it right in front of the dogs face. That creeped them out enough to move and then she started banging on the glass. That was probably the highlight of my day. The sneezing and runny nose business seems to be under control. I am ready for Kelsey to come home now.

FIRE!
So I am putting Mia to sleep and I hear Jerry tell Pam that he smells something burning. She offers immediately to call the fire department or 911. I have just about got this baby to sleep and I am not worried so much about a fire as I am Mia going down for the night. After slowly and carefully transferring Mia from the rocker to her crib, I dash out to see what was going on. Sure enough, there was a fire in my bathroom! The smell was horrible. First thing Pam said when I saw her was, "Jerry took care of it." My heat lamp had a short inside the box and some how caused a large flame. Jerry threw water on it and put it out. No real harm done. Just scary because you never really think about a fire in your own home. Kelsey was out with his flight instructor and from Mia's room you could not smell the fire so I am so thankful Pam and Jerry happened to be with me. We had to sleep with the windows open that night to get the awful smell out and we will be buying a new heat light unit to replace the one that went up in flames.

And we're up!!!
Up up and away! Mia first stood up in her pack n' play when I was not looking, but quickly showed me her new trick when I sat her back down. Since then, she has mastered this skill in her crib and on the ottoman. The problem is getting down. She will stand for a while and take some good licks to the face from Seis, but then yell at me to sit her back down. She has one bottom tooth that broke surface and another one on the way. This has caused her to teethe on anything- even the furniture. It gets harder every day to keep her entertained in one spot for more than a minute.
